Zumba and African Dance Classes

Zumba and African Dance classes return to Sojourner Truth Museum

Over the years Sojourner Truth Museum has provided a variety of diverse cultural dance workshops.  Workshops have included: Salsa, Huki Lau, Hip Hop, Modern Dance and African Dance. We are pleased to announce that starting in June, Zumba classes will be held every Sunday from 4:00pm to 5:00pm and African Dance classes will be held every Saturday from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

African Dance classes will be provided by the group Kucheza Ngoma II Dance Company Inc.
The group specializes in traditional West African dancers-Guinea, Senegal and Gambia and also does Congolese dance and drumming.

Zumba classes will be provided by fitness trainer Courtney Smith. Courtney’s Zumba class is best described as a fun, joyful Latin inspired fitness workshop that combines all the rhythms in Latin music. She incorporates Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Rumba, Mambo, Belly Dance, Flamenco, Samba, Afro Cuban, Tango, Reggatone, and of course Hip Hop. Courtney has one of the most popular Zumba classes in Sacramento. Participants usually arrive one hour early just to reserve a space.
I guarantee you — you will have tons of fun.

Here is why:

  1. Even if you think you cannot dance
  2. You do not need a partner to participate
  3. If you are bored with your regular cardio program

Zumba is for you! I can best describe Zumba dancing as something for everyone — all shapes, sizes, male and female. Just about any age too. Zumba allows you to have fun while safely losing pounds and inches.

Fees for these dance workshops will be $7.00 per class. Space is limited so RSVP today at
